Optic Nerve Regeneration

I get google news updates about blindness and technology.  Every once and a while I will NERVOUSLY search google news for articles about regenerating nerve cells.  Boy was I  surprised today!

I read an article about a study in which some vision had been returned to mice with optic nerve damage.  This is the blindness that afflicts me (nerve damage&) so I was ecstatic to read the following article.  apparently 4 million others have the same problem as me.  who WOULDA thunk it?

Coffee: It's whats for breakfast

I feel like no food or drink has been debated more than coffee.  In my lifetime alone I have heard scientists flip-flop "bad for you, good for you," about 100 times.

However, a recent study suggests that coffee lowers 'risk of death.'  Well that sounds pretty good to me.  I also heard on the Dr. Oz show several months ago that having around 6 cups of coffee a day cuts a man's risk for prostate cancer about %60.  And Teddy Roosevelt, one of the most amazing men in history, drank around 2 gallons a day.  So I say fire up the Kuregs, plug in that french press, or stop by Dunkin Donuts;  THAT HEALTHY BUZZ IS WAITING FOR YOU.

HOPE

I have always thought that hope is an important aspect of life.  It gives us inspiration and the possibility of a brighter future.  I carry a lot of hope that I might one day get my vision back.  I have friends that hope for an end to diabetes, cancer, and anziety.

One situation that I long considered hopeless was being paralyzed.  It must be one of the most difficult situations to be stuck in a world that you cannot interact with  physically.    I even remember one of my friends saying in high school "If I ever become a vegetable, pull the plug on me...... I am serious and I have been extremely vocal about this."

Those words still resonate in my mind.  And although being paralyzed and completely brain dead are much different, they are bothsome of the hardest situations I could ever imagine being in.

But articles like the following one are changing the way I think about any medical condition  I think that with stem cells, robotics, and other technological advancements anything is possible.  I And I hope my friend from high school is changing his views as well.

The Dictator on Daily Show

Drugs are Bad, MMMKAY?

While my generation was growing up they made us attend "D.A.R.E." classes.  I found them a little bit aimless, convoluted, and at times, confusing.  Nothing could echo my sentiments better than this classic Ben Stiller Show clip.  Enjoy:  MR. MARKUS

Homophobes are GAY!

I am ecstatic to hear the following clip of Obama speaking on same sex marriage.  If marriage affords people benefits such as tax breaks, than shouldn't every citizen be allowed those same benefits?  I hope that gay marriage is allowed in every state in the next couple of years.

Obama Video

Also, I really dislike homophobic people.  If you fall into this,  category, maybe you should check out the following study from the University of Georgia.

The Basic idea is that the more homophobic a man is, the more sexually aroused they get by gay porno!

NFL: Bounties Abound?

Although I am not surprised, Chris Carter admitted that offensive players put bounties out on defensive players in the NFL.  What does this revelation prove?  That people love money.

Google Gets Nevada Driving Licence For Self-Drive Car

This self-drive Toyota Prius would be life changing for the visually impaired.  I am sure a passenger would need nerves of steel to get into the car but as soon as enough time has passed and the comfort level rises this ground breaking technology would provide independence to a whole group of people no longer able to drive due to loss of sight or other medical reason.  Click here for the article

DDP Yoga Heals Disabled Vet

So when Andrew told me he was doing Yoga as way to get rid of some of the weight put on by the steroids he was given, I just didn't understand it.  I mean when I think of ways to lose weight Yoga did not jump out to me as a way to do it.  I am still not completely convinced that Yoga is the most effective way but it worked for this Gulf War disabled Vet.  After watching this video tears of Joy leaked from my eyes and my eyes are a little more open to what is possible. I just think this story is awesome.
