SINGULARITY...CLOSER THAN WE THINK?
In my college class, Religion and Philosophy, I read many thought provoking books and articles. "The Age of Spiritual Machines", by Ray Kurzweil, was one of these books.
Today I read the following ARTICLE about Kurzweil sharing his insights and ideas with Google inc. Though this might not seem like a big development to most, I have a good feeling my robotic optic nerves are right around the corner.

GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE...
Yesterday afternoon, I watched a documentary on HBO called "Gunfight.: The basic premise of the film was that america has too many guns and too many crazy people who go on shooting sprees.
The film maker, who was shot during the Virginia Tech shootings, was trying to shed light on a gun law loophole. The loophole, known as the gun show loop hole, allows private citizens to sell their own guns to other people...WITH NO BACKGROUND CHECK. So for example, a convicted felon could go buy a baretta pistol without having any background check done.
Another trick people pull is called a "straw buy. This is where someone with a criminal record pays someone with a clean record, to purchase a gun for them. Both of these things are putting guns into the hands of criminals, sociopaths,, and wackos.
I found the documentary so inspiring, I searched for a clip this morning to post on my blog. I couldn't find any on youtube, so I searched Change.org to see if anyone had started a petition to 'close' the gun show loophole. The only result I found had only 8 signatures, and had been closed. I thought about starting one at the time. . ..
Flash forward to about an hour later, and...what do you know, SOME F-EN WACK JOBBER SHOOTS UP A SCHOOL FULL OF KIDS!! It makes me Phuckin sick to my stomach. So I am going to write a letter and call my congressman and tell them to close the loophole. If you are on Facebook, please join the cause here:
AND also call or write your congress person about this extremely important issue.
ESPN's Parker calls RGIII a "cornball"!
Everyone knows the name RGIII. Does anyone know the name Rob Parker? I guess this is his feeble attempt to get a little media coverage.

Ready to eat some Franken-fish?
There are many stories that have the moral "do not play with god's creations. From the Prometheus myth, to Frankenstein, to Jurassic Park, these trials never seem to end well. " A company that has been making genetically modified farmed salmon, or what I like to call Franken-fish, is about to get clearance from the FDA. And what is more sketchy is that they will appear on supermarket shelves labeled as "farmed salmon." I am sure the new fast growing fish tastes fine, but I can't help but to think of the famous Simpson's moment when Marge serves Mr. Burns a piece of Blinky, the 3 eyed fish. My main concern is if a franken fish gets into the wild, and takes over the whole ecosystem.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)
It is hard to relax these days...and even harder to get a good nights sleep. Between stress from work, stress from family, fear f hurricanes and the end of the world, anxiety is at an all time high. For the last few days, I have been practicing progressive muscle relaxation, or PMR, to help me get to bed.
My first experience with PMR was when I was about 16 years old. I was in a group meditation class at a summer camp, and they started THE meditation with PMR. It is basically a series of tensing, then relaxing, different muscle groups. Deep breathing accompanies the muscle tensing and relaxing.
If you are interested in trying this out, There are many youtube videos. I listened to several, and I found this one to be the most relevant and of the highest quality (at least audio quality). If you are someone who has trouble sleeping, or even relaxing, I highly recommend giving this a try. I personally like doing it while lying in bed, and it puts me to sleep like an exhausted baby.
