Blind Bathroom Mishaps
Since going blind, I have found public restrooms as one of the most difficult, and stressful places to navigate. Aside from finding the toilet/urinal, sink, soap, paper towels, and trash, you have to worry about other things like people and stairs. One time Raya lead me to the bathroom door, and I found out the hard way that a flight of 5 stairs was right in the middle of the walkway!
But help is on the way. A new device called "sight compass" is going to help the blind and visually impaired navigare unknown spaces. Although it is very expensive at the moment, in the future it will help people by sending the layouts of public spaces right to the comfort of your smart phone.
